Request Info Apply Now About the Program The program is designed to enhance your academic background and make you a more competitive applicant for programs in medicine, dental medicine, physician assistant, pharmacy, optometry, anesthesiologist assistant and more. If you are passionate about pursuing a career in research, you will be more prepared for entrance to biomedical science graduate programs or a career in the biomedical/biotechnology, population health or the pharmaceutical industries. Why Choose Us NSU's (M.B.S.) program was created by the same faculty who teach our medical students. Research shows that master's programs offered within a medical school environment can better prepare students to become proficient health professionals, while enabling students to build more competitive applications to medical school and other health professional schools. Moreover, master's programs in the biomedical sciences that include electives in other concentrations accelerate the personal and professional development of students. Our interdisciplinary curriculum is unique amongst pre-professional programs. To help you fulfill prerequisite requirements, we offer a variety of undergraduate level pre-health courses. For those who have completed all health professional program course requirements, we offer graduate level courses taught by our medical school faculty and a test preparation course to enhance your standardized test taking skills. NSU houses cutting edge, externally funded research labs that will cultivate your research skills. Additionally, we encourage our health science-focused students to explore aspects of business through our partnership with the H. Wayne Huizenga College of Business and Entrepreneurship. Similar to students in the NSU M.D. program, you will be introduced to a variety of teaching and learning methods such as small group learning (e.g., problem-based learning and team-based learning). You will gain foundational science knowledge with an emphasis on clinical correlation enhanced by the use of innovative teaching modalities. The intensive M.B.S. curriculum is aimed at preparing you for the rigors of medical school and other challenging health professions programs. To support you during and beyond the M.B.S. program, we will provide you with personalized goal-driven academic and career planning and advising to help you achieve your professional goals. Program Highlights Choose your path with several interdisciplinary elective options that allow you to focus on your strengths, needs and Interests Receive personalized goal-oriented mentoring and professional development Complete the 30-credit master's program in as little as one year (full time) or on a part-time basis, with some evening and online course offerings Fall and winter start dates Earn a guaranteed interview in several of NSU's competitive health professions programs* Pre-Health Advising By enrolling in the NSU degree program, you will receive pre-health advising from NSU MD faculty. Your assigned advisor will guide you in enhancing your medical school or graduate school admissions portfolio or job application materials, giving you an edge above other candidates. Our test preparation, business and interview skills courses will help you outperform the competition. Guaranteed Admission Interview* students who meet program-specific minimum academic and professional criteria will be guaranteed an admission interview in select highly-competitive NSU health professions programs, including, but not limited to Doctor of Dental Medicine (D.M.D.) Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) Doctor of Optometry (O.D.) Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) Master of Medical Science (Physician Assistant) Master of Science in Anesthesia (Anesthesiologist Assistant) Please speak with our admissions representatives for additional information.* Admission Requirements Applications for admission to the program are made to the NSU Health Professions Division Office of Admissions. Admission is based on a comprehensive review of multiple criteria, including the following: Completion of online application Application fee of $50 Bachelor's degree from an accredited U.S. college or university, or international equivalent Official transcripts of all undergraduate, graduate, and professional coursework and, if applicable, official course by course evaluations of any foreign transcripts Complete a minimum of four semester hours with a minimum of a C in both Biology and Chemistry. Successful completion of Organic Chemistry I and II is recommended. Complete a minimum of three semester hours with a minimum of a C in English or Composition. A minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale Letters of recommendation 1 letter of recommendation from a pre-professional advisory committee, OR 2 letters of recommendation from previous instructors or supervisors who can testify to the student’s characteristics, integrity, application, and aptitude in science (if an applicant has been employed for a considerable period of time, 2 letters of recommendation from employers may be substituted). Note, graduate entrance exam scores, such as the GRE, are not required for admission. Curriculum Master's Degree: 30 Credits Students must successfully complete all five required courses and five elective courses for a total of 30 credits to graduate.
